With 40
years of Manx, we know how to do
it right!
Your
Well Adjusted Manx Kitten
Socialized,
Litter Pan & Scratching Post
Trained
We have a
special kitten room and birthing
area for our five girls. When
mothers are due, they have their
babies in a box which allows
privacy and room to stretch out
and nurse comfortably. Half of
the domed top retracts to allow
plenty of light. The baby box
sides are high to keep
kittens secure until they are
the right age to go climb out and
go exploring. The queen cage is 6
feet long and made of plastic.
It allows room for running but
no place for baby claws or heads
to be caught. Manx babies start
using a litter pan around age 4
weeks. We have little
baby litter pans which are easy
for kitties to use. The litter
and pan are kept very clean so
the kittens will find it the most
pleasant place to use for their
needs. The cage has a short,
climbable sisal scratching post.
When the babies are
fully oriented to the litter pan
and eating on their own, their
door is opened into the our kitty
room.
The
kitty room is used a lot and we
are in and out of it all day. It
has a tile floor, a big two
story litter pan box,
a scratching post, a play
hammock, and a cage where they
can be secured when the floor is
mopped or when the pet sitter
needs to watch them. They are
used to being around people,
hearing a TV, vacuum
cleaner, washer and dryer. They
know to use a litter pan in more
than one location so they are
oriented to using any litter pan
placed anywhere. They use a
sisal scratching post as this is
the most wonderful thing to claw
or climb (a rug scratching post
would teach them to claw a rug).
All materials are machine
washable or hose-able!
We feel it
is detrimental to let unweaned
kittens loose in a house or a
large room, especially a room
with carpeting. Without first
being oriented to a litter pan,
kittens will often pee and poop
in a corner, behind a bed or
bookcase, etc.
This creates quite a problem
for the new owner. Kelsha
kittens know right from the start
that their litter pan is the
place to go, so we have
no problems with improper
soiling.
The kitty
room leads to a 10' x 40' room.
This room is screened on two
sides and allows a view of the
pool, bird garden and butterfly
sanctuary. Our male lives here,
along with a rotating couple
of girlfriends. This room is
tiled, and has two 6'x6'x6'
walk-in cages with several
shelves, toys, and scratching
posts. All cats and kittens like
to run and play in this room.
And of
course, all the cats get to be
house pets, and we have a dog (a
Chinese Crested Powder Puff). We
keep or 'pet out' young, altered
adults.
